Launch: World Origin, Youth Power

Updated: Oct 11, 2019

Hi Raisins,

Today's blog is a special one! It's the official launch of my World Origin, Youth Power project.

Quick summary of what happened because no one likes unnecessary details. (Though honestly I do like writing them).

  1. My photos and documentary were featured at Chen Gallery on the 27th of July. There were ~40 guests.

  2. All profits go to my "Mosuo Children Cultural Classroom (MCCC)" crowdraising project.

  3. I sold ~30 "FireGod Medallion Tees" and 7 exclusive photographs (Prints actually available on site) to raise $$.

  4. We raised¥27558.3~$4006.04

Now let's talk about the memorable stuff.

First of all, the gallery was HOT. It's the hottest day of the year (40°C/104°F+) and the gallery did not have AC. Somehow, it had slipped past all of us. Anyways, by the end of the event, everyone was drenched. The fact they stayed is an attestment to how amazing the event was. (Actually, it's proves that they are truly wonderful people and that I'm so lucky to have such loyal supporters). At least the heat replicated Mosuo's temperatures and made the event more immersive, I guess.

We had sensational performances throughout the event. From 陀乐乐团 <TuoLeYueTuan>'s lively music

to this adorable dance about Mosuo's Coming of Age Ceremony,

we all had a sneak peak into the hauntingly beautiful world of Ethnic culture.

This was also an opportunity for me to publicly express my gratitude for my amazing family and supporters. Of course, I also talked about my motivations behind the project and my goals for the future.

Apparently my mom ordered a surprise birthday cake to celebrate my 18th birthday in advance. We haven't celebrated my birthday as a family ever since I went to Cate, so it was meaningful to us all. The cake was, unfortunately, stuck in Beijing's hellish traffic, and could not arrive in time for all guests to enjoy. They missed out, though, because it was the biggest cake I've ever seen in my life!

Look at that thing! It's monstrous! But it's incredibly delicious and will satisfy all cake cravings for a whole year.

Since a lot of people left before the cake could arrive (and rightfully so, as the event had ended), we had a lot of cake left. A LOT. We decided that it'd be best if we share it to neighbours and workers working late shifts around.

With that, a hectic yet wonderful day was concluded.

Until next time, Raisins!

More fun adventures are around the corner.

Special thanks to-
